Biodiesel

Biofuel is fuel derived from organic matter that is obtained either directly from plants (vegetable oils: rapeseed, soy, palm, sunflower, coconut, jatropha, etc.); or indirectly, from agricultural, commercial, domestic and/or industrial wastes.

To qualify as biofuel, it must contain at least 80% renewable materials.

The most commonly used biofuels are bioethanol, made from cereals and added to petrol; and biodiesel, made from oleaginous plants and added to diesel.

Biodiesel can be used in its pure form (100% biodiesel) or combined with conventional, petroleum-based diesel, for example: B20 (i.e., a 20% biodiesel/80% petrodiesel blend).
